MIA Park Bazaar – March

12 Feb

Image

Since I decided to participate as a vendor at the next MIA Park Bazaar…(Um, today!). I finished up making some necklaces and special bracelets and tested out my potential table layout for the bazaar.

Yes, I’m a geek. But every detail is important to me.

Maybe it’s made even more ingrained into me from my background in branding and design. Everything has to look right. Everything has to be branded and consistent. Image

Next, I need to keep my eye out for a pink calculator.

Some information on the bazaar;

‘Held on the first Saturday of every month, this open air market showcases an eclectic mix of food, jewelry, arts, crafts, clothing, books, souvenirs, perfumes and more. Whether you’re looking for a relaxed family outing, interested in some serious shopping or just looking for an excuse to see friends, the bazaar offers a wealth of entertainment options for both young and old’.

This is a fellow vendor, she is an amazing artist; ‘les-cherubins’, and often showcases her work at many markets and art fairs. She has been very kind and has assisted me quite a lot with the facts, admin questions and more I had re: arts & crafts markets here.

Tribe of Mannequins received a wonderful shout out on ‘AlwaysDolledUp.com’!

What is “contouring” and why does it matter?  Contouring is the strategic placement of different shades of makeup in different places to create an illusion.  I find it fascinating how quickly this “art” can transform your facial features.  Check out Kim Kardashian below for prime example of the power of contouring, and read this blog post for an amazing step-by-step guide and photos of other transformations.

My post on contouring has received 80 comments thus far. I’m glad it has interested you guys and gals, just as it interests me to write these articles. I enjoy researching, find great visuals, structuring the posts and putting everything together.

Keep stopping by! :)

The Tribe of Mannequins Boutique

29 Jan

I mentioned a while back that I was launching a boutique in connection to my blog Tribe of Mannequins, and the time is here.

tribe of mannequins boutique AND BLOG header new FACEBOOOOK

I have a few pretty items in stock and have been creating and designing some other pieces for my own collection.

I call this one ‘Skulls and Caviar’. It features beautiful moonstone ‘galaxy’ beads that really catch the light, and a rosary pendant. This piece is designed and created by myself.

This one is called ‘Pink Buddha’, and I have sold one of these in the first day it was made. This piece is designed and created by myself.

Once the branding is fully launched, I shall post details of my stock and range at my first arts market.

Festive jumpers

23 Dec

Image

Yes, I’m a fan of Christmas jumpers (sans wool or angora!), artificial all the way of course.

Whilst some may view them as cheesy or tacky; I simply see them for what they are; a bit of fun. A little piece of festivity in sweater-form.

And I’m not really talking about ones like this:

Annual Costume Ball at The Hilton

1 Dec

IMG_2275

Since moving to a new country around two months ago; I decided I needed to socialise and ‘get myself out there’. I joined a dramatics society amongst some other things and was invited to their Annual Costume Ball; last night’s theme was: ‘Stars of the Stage and Screen’.

After some thought, a lot of thought – I came up with the wolf from Little Red Riding Hood!

I didn’t want to go completely overboard with the make-up, so I used a normal base, and just kept smoking the eyes. I added dramatic eyeliner and additional bronzer and contouring. And of course I added a wolf nose…By use black liquid eyeliner and topping off with black eyeshadow to seal.

I curled my hair having added clip-ins from HeadKandy (just three all together) and placed my wolf ears hat on top.

All items are non-animal! No wool, angora, fur etc!

It did cross my mind a coule of weeks ago, but I sort of forgot about it; however my fella reminded me in the taxi there when he asked me if I was concerned if everyone else would be dressed in posh dresses, like Cinderellas, Marilyn Monroe’s, Greta Garbo’s and the like…Being a ‘Ball’ and all.

“Crap!…” I said outloud…

“Yep”. He said. “And you’re a dog”.

Haha! I started to sweat out and my reply…”I feel sick”.

Of course! It’s typical, I go to a ball, in an actual Ballroom, in The Hilton Hotel as a wolf, and every-other woman there is dressed as a beautiful, screen siren.

It did cross my mind a few weeks ago to come as a 20s starlet, but I wanted something different, an actual costume.

We climbed out of the taxi at the valet, and all I could see were Cinderella’s, Mary Poppinses’ and 20′s dresses. “Crrap!” I exclaimed. “Oh well” I shrugged…”I’m here now!”

No sooner had those words left my mouth, did we start overhearing lovely things from fellow guests such as ‘Wow, that’s so cool’ and ‘That’s great to see something different! There are lots of Cinderellas and Dames!”

Then people started coming up to me and asking me about the costume. I grabbed a welcome drink from the servers tray and sipped away…”You feel’ better now?” My fella asked me? “Yes! A lot!” :).

We met some really cool people last night, and saw some awesome outfits. I’m off the Qatar National Theatre this week to take Behind-The-Stage photographs of rehearsals, before the big annual festive play later this week. I look forward to both of these events!;

It was a super fun evening had by all, and I am really glad I went. It was scary as I didn’t know anyone other than my fella; but these things are good for us – the often scary things.

So…Be a ‘Yes’ man.

(PS – Watch the movie with Jim Carrey too! ‘Yes man’) :D

Winter wear

30 Nov

I LOVE winter clothes! I am really into layering; and I think it suits my body type more than summery dresses etc.

Which is tough as I live in the Middle East!

Luckily, Air Conditioning is inconsistent at the best of times, in malls, at the cinema, in restaurants, at work; so you are still able to don your favourite sweater and not sweat too much!

It is always advised to take a cover-up around with you in the Middle East, the main reason of course is due to appropriate dressing; the second reason; as I mentioned – chilly A/C.

When I first moved to the Middle East around five years ago, I emulated the usual expat look of bringing a shawl/ or wrap with me to wear around the malls etc. But once I found my footing, and salary – I could experiment more!

Wraps aren’t for everyone, and sweaters aren’t for everyone either. Our body types are all different, and so we are lucky to have choices.

This post will just have a few snaps of the types of winter wear I’m fashioning currently. These mostly consist of boots (ankle and knee-high), leggings or jeggings, long t-shirts, sweaters/jumpers (no wool, angora, animal products etc), waistcoats, light jackets, baggy men’s bobble hats, and light cotton scarves.

Some layered looks I covet:

And don’t forget to check your labels! To avoid wool, angora etc!
