Tribe of Mannequins received a wonderful shout out on ‘AlwaysDolledUp.com’!

What is “contouring” and why does it matter?  Contouring is the strategic placement of different shades of makeup in different places to create an illusion.  I find it fascinating how quickly this “art” can transform your facial features.  Check out Kim Kardashian below for prime example of the power of contouring, and read this blog post for an amazing step-by-step guide and photos of other transformations.

My post on contouring has received 80 comments thus far. I’m glad it has interested you guys and gals, just as it interests me to write these articles. I enjoy researching, find great visuals, structuring the posts and putting everything together.

Keep stopping by! :)

Katara trunk show; post-event

15 Nov

Katara Cultural Village was surprising! I didn’t expect it to be so…Beautiful! Having not been there previously; I was taken back by the detail there.

The trunk show was great! People were lovely, designs are creative and over all atmosphere was welcoming, a lovely evening. I got an instant feeling of calm entering the art center, I felt right at home. The pop up reminsicent of the Chelsea Market Pop Ups in NYC.

A piece from FRQ called ‘Billy the Bulldog’. I asked them if they had a similar one, but a ring with less bling, they did not – but this one is a cutie for sure. Love the pink tongue detail:Image

I ended up actually purchasing another of their pieces from their collection, a pink skull ring. It’s so well made and is a base of gold with pink on, and…Wait for it…Glitter!: (all other rings I am wearing below are all from my boutique: Tribe of Mannequins. Launch date: TBC):

Following the trunk show, we wandered around the rest of the site; from art exhibitions to photography shows, from installations to a Dhow Festival on the beach; it was bustling down in Doha, by The Pearl last night, and a good time was had by all, I’m sure.

At Katara Cultural Village; the Art Center(re) specifically; tonight you will find the launch of the ‘Common Thread’ pop up shops; an exclusive trunk show featuring 16 local artists and designers, each of whom designs or makes their own products.

Image

According to the Gulf Times; designers participating in this month’s trunk show include Cala Mari, Fufi Design, Dana Jewelry, two4joy, Common Thread, Moda Key, Twenty30Forty, Nikki Newman, Roqaya al-Thani, Selina Farooqi, Ardoin Collection, Michella, Gabi, White Stain, Giovanile, Veil Art and Dana Riad.

I aim to get my own Boutique: ‘Tribe of Mannequins’ up and running by the next trunk show, where I shall be showcasing my jewelry collection and wares.

I am currently working on the branding and website; I already have stock ready to go!

This blog, of the same title will then be the sister blog to the products website.

Here is a top secret, sneak peek of some of my collection/s for my boutique’ Tribe of Mannequins. I also am working on my cute pieces with themes; such as ‘Fairytale’, which, for example – are chunky necklaces featuring castles, carriages and princesses on them.

And of course a range of cupcake related pieces.

There are also larger pieces such as clutch bags and some other surprises, yet to come – so stay tuned!

Some special beads I sourced personally in Thailand ready to custom create pieces with, some rings and knuckle-duster rings:

Katara Art Centre launched in 2011, it’s aim being to foster and and encourage creativity. The Art Centre has provided gallery spaces for several successful exhibitions including Desine Espoir, which brought together the biggest names in fashion for a humanitarian project.

Designers included Jean-Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood, Lanvin, Viktor & Rolf, Yves Saint Laurent and Emmanuel Ungaro *drooool!* – two of my favourites there!

I am very much looking forward to heading on down there and meeting local creatives, networking and eyeballin’ all the eye candy on offer – clothes, bags, custom, one of a kinds, wheee! :)

A blog-spot post I came across earlier led me to Les Cherubins; who showcased some handmade crafts in May 2012. Check these cuties out!: http://les-cherubins.blogspot.com/2012/05/common-thread-pop-up-boutique.html

I contacted her yesterday, to branch out network and she let me know she’s also showcasing her clothing collection: Cala Mari.

I LOVE her tornado skirt designs. Gorgeous. Maybe I can bag me oneuv’ ‘em!

Here is one of them featured bottom left:

I’ve been thinking about what I’m going to wear down to the trunk show all day! I wish I had my branding for the boutique up and running as I’d love to bring some business cards with me; but hey-ho. I’m donning some of my own designs and usually when people ask me where I got something from, I can tell them! It’s wearing your own billboard, in the form of a jacket/ring/bag – perfect!

This is what I’ve decided on wearing:

  • - Yellow peplum half sleeve top
  • - Orange ‘Hand of Hamsa/Fatima’ rosary bead style necklace; from my collection ‘Tribe of Mannequins’,
  • - All rings from my boutique: ‘Tribe of Mannequins’.
  • - All bracelets from my collection: ‘Tribe of Mannequins’.
  • - Black standard leggings
  • - Black boots
  • - Black studded shoulder ‘Kayley’ jacket from Celeb Boutique, USA. (I have purchased many studs like this now so shall be custom-making pieces featuring them).
  • Pink large Chanel quilted bag, with added ‘Paul’s Boutique’ keychain.
  • My Canon EOS 60D!

Summer holiday wardrobe rundown

20 Aug

Image

Hey guys! So I’ve been fairly rubbish with blog entries of later, however it’s been all change here. I went on holiday to Thailand (Phuket), came back from said holiday, quit my job (as Manager of Client Services at a Corporate Communications and Design agency), gained a new job (as Operations Director at a company that provides to the Oil and Gas Industry) , and am soon to be moving countries. So lot’s of planning, boxes, stacks of books everywhere, and lot’s of pretty ornaments and whatnots have been packed away, ready for the move.

But there is more excitement afoot with this move, more space, out own pool, and even getting our own chickens in our yard. It’s exciting, but like anything that involves change, scary. Wish me luck, guys!

So this post…

This, like the winter wardrobe entry for NYC, outlines; briefly, my summer holiday wardrobe…When it didn’t consist of loads of beads, flowers worn in my hair, sarong-type beachwear and flip-flops…Which happened…Mostly.

New Look purchased outfit pretty much – the vest top, the sheer blouse, the denim shorts. The hat I purchased from a little shop in Kata Beach, Phuket.

Image

Image

The green summery blouse/dress with wrap-around belt, I got from a little stall in Patong, opposite Jungecelyon Mall. The bikini (neon coral 3-D Flowers) I got from ASOS.com. The beaded necklace with elephant on – I got from Accessorize in Marina Mall, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Image

Image

Image

The neon coral coloured bikini with 3-D flower detail (halterneck) from ASOS.COM. You can mix and match top and bottom sizes if needed. I am pear-shaped, there – I said it outloud. So I have to get one size bottoms and smaller sized top.

It’s brighter neon that I imagined. I didn’t even realise it would be neon when I ordered it, but I think it works well, and brings out the colour of your skin.

And ladies, should you have a smaller bust like me, the 3-D detailing on the top, is amazing for illusions! And being a halterneck, it practically has a Wonderbra effect.

Image

Image

Image

I got this dress/long vest from a stall in Patong, Phuket also. It features Ghanesh on it. The flower headband I got from New Look, the black beaded necklace from Accessorize and the wooden Sandlewood one smells amazing and is from a craved furniture store in Old Phuket Town. The two beaded skull bracelets I got very cheap from a stall near my hotel in Kata, whereas in a designer boutique in The Dubai Mall, it is more than treble the price for one featuring the same skulls. You can also get these on etsy.com for about 3-6 US Dollars ($).

Image

Image

Black vest-dress with split up back is also from ASOS.com, for around 17.00 UK pounds – what a bargain! The hat I got in Phuket.
