About Tribe of Mannequins:
Introduced to blogging by an friend in 2006, Kirstiie was a regular reader of online fashion publications and diaries. Often submitting photography and articles to undergrounds zine’s such as Big City Rednecks in London and Beat Your HeART Out in Manchester.
But it wasn’t until early 2010, that she started Tribe of Mannequins.
The lovely Melanie Penny, Fashion and Beauty Director at OK! Middle East suggested Kirstiie should start a fashion blog; and with credentials like hers, and based on such an inspiring compliment, how could she possibly argue?! ;)
Tribe of Mannequins looks at current trends in fashion and beauty, reviews cosmetics and hauls and takes a look at interesting themes and quirky pieces found on the street, in malls and in souks.
A triple threat:
- Beauty and fashion blog
- One of a kind jewellery pieces created by Tribe of Mannequins.
- Unusual fashion pieces sourced from all over the world.
The name? Kirstiie says:
“As Tribe of Mannequins began initially as purely a fashion/beauty blog, I was brainstorming names and ideas, having come from a branding/ad agency background – I was used to sketching out name and tag ideas. Firstly I fell on the word ‘Tribe’. I liked it alot and knew the blog needed to work around that word. That meaning. It stands for the us; the women and men, the consumers, the readers, the artists. ‘Mannequins’ is what we are really; in the context of fashion, cosmetics, ‘beauty’, and indeed different cultural ideals of beauty. We are plain canvases waiting to be draped in fashion, sprinkled with cosmetics, doused with creativity. When we think of this idea as a complete whole; it is Tribe of Mannequins”.
In 2012; Kirstiie’s partner actually suggested she take up an artistic hobby, as it’s always something she’s had an active interest in. He suggested making jewellery. And the rest is history.
